For Sale: Volkswagen 1/11 Beetle 1959
This car is in very exceptional condition! It is still in its first paint from 1959. The interior has never been touched and it still looks very good! I pulled this car out of the dry barn where it sat for more than 20 years! After this, the brakes were completely rebuilt with new master cylinder, hoses, wheel cylinders and shoes. New fuel tap, exhaust, all ignition parts, hubcaps and tyres. Set the valve clearance and changed the fluids.
It does not appear to have had any welding repairs done to it at all! You can see some surface rust on outside of the body, but for an original untouched car, it is in an amazing condition, and it is a bliss to drive. Not even any welding has been done under the spare wheel or under the battery.
It is only original once!
There is something about a very original classic car that has been kept from the wind and rain for so long. Something that is almost impossible to get back after a full restoration of a classic car. And if you are looking at auction results lately, it seems like the trend now is: As-original-as-possible cars are getting the higher value. However, everyone has a different level of what “patina” and “charmingly warn” is.
These are adjectives often used by auction houses when they want to sell a complete restoration project! And we will not claim this is a car in perfect condition! As you see on the pictures, this first paint is starting to wear and there is some of the rubber trim that is dry. So the work that has been done, now after the sleep, has been more about preservation, making its mechanical side up to the standard it had when it left the factory in 1959 and of course making it safe for driving!
